Teaching in local schools Home based care Children programme Water and Sanitation Sustainable Agriculture Environmental Conservation Behavior Change Communication Schools remain closed in the month of April, August and December for school holidays Your volunteer contribution in teaching English would highly improve students learning in different schools within the urban and rural communities in Kenya. We work with a number of schools where volunteer teachers are highly needed. We urge volunteers with the talent of teaching profession to impart the same knowledge acquired in their areas of specialization. There are a big number of students per class compared to the local teachers around and your voluntary contribution to teach would be highly appreciated.
Teaching opportunity was established to cater for Local and International volunteer students with the talent of teaching profession. It also prepares volunteers to improve students learning in different schools in Wagusu and Abimbo communities. It gives the volunteers an opportunity to handle various children with different abilities by sharing their English skills and teaching talents. The head teacher appoints a member of his staff to assist in guiding the volunteers while providing tutoring help for students who require it. The students range from pre-school to class (grade) 8. Besides teaching English, you can combine teaching English with math, social science, health science or other subjects. Volunteers can also get involved with the children by helping them with conversational English, basic math, arts & crafts, games, sports like soccer and running, music, and any other talents you wish to share extra-curricular activities, like sports, theater, and art as this acts as an essential part that helps many impoverished children move up the socio-economic ladder. For the older students, you can teach more formal subjects like English, science, math, and history All classes are taught in English in Kenya.
Volunteer teachers work under the supervision of one of the teacher
staff appointed by the Head teacher. The school schedule is from Monday
to Friday from 8am to 4pm with a two-hour sports period from 3-5pm
where students do curriculum activities.
Donation Volunteers who wish to provide learning materials for the school like books, pens, pencils, charts e.t.c will be highly appreciated.
